The archdeaconry was created in the Diocese of Canterbury from the Archdeaconry of Maidstone by Order in Council on 1 April 1930 and transferred to the Diocese of Southwark on 1 January 1985.〔(Podmore, Colin – Aspects of Anglican Identity, p84 (Google Books) ) (Accessed 23 February 2013)〕 The post is currently held by Chris Skilton, since his collation on 14 April 2013.
